So on the first day in San Diego, we went to the Zoo. It was packed, and it took half an hour to find a parking place! But the zoo is very well laid out, and you don't even feel that the animals have it too badly. They switch them off with others at the Wild Animal Park, so there's none of that pacing in cages - except for the siberian tiger, who was either very hungry or about to go postal.
Sadly, the picture of the giraffe doesn't show its purple tongue too well. And I can't remember what kind of cat was playing with its chew toy. The female panda was very restless as she is entering estrous. The male panda next door was sacked out on the ground. The zoo has a "critter cam" in its panda enclosure, if you go to the San Diego website you can check out the panda action for yourself. Lots of weird goat/antelope/cattle like creatures - not my favorites. Highly recommended as a place to pass some time when in San Diego.
Oh, and meerkats. Who doesn't like meercats? They are very cute. In this case, they were all trying to grab the best position to catch the last rays of the afternoon sun. Not a bad life.
