So the sun still shines in some parts of the province. It is toasty warm here, not too hot thank god. The trip on the ferry was uneventful, other than having pulled away from the Rupert dock and cruised all the way to the end of the harbour when we had to go back because of a medical emergency. The Queen of Prince Rupert had already docked after we set sail, so they had to ready themselves and pull away so we could dock again, and let the paramedics come on board and remove someone. Given that the ferry was full of First Nations Elders returning to Vancouver Island after the Elders' Conference, anything could have happened. So we left an hour and a half behind schedule, but must have made up most of it because we still got into Port Hardy at 11.
Driving down island was fine - left Pt. Hardy at 5 am and was at the ferry terminal in Nanaimo at 9, and in Vancouver by 1. All the furniture had already arrived and E was sitting in a pile of wrappings and packing trying to get everything sorted out. The place looks good with furniture! It's also great to have real chairs to sit on.
Yesterday we did the spa thing. 5 hours of massage, facial, manicure, pedicure... really a nice way to unwind after the stresses of the last month. The fact that the spa is really across the street was helpful too. When we were done, we came home and sat on our deck and read. After dinner, we walked on the seawall to the Urban Fare and bought some food and came back. A very civilized Vancouver evening.
Today we are off to the wilds of Richmond to pick up more goods and groceries. We are having our first guests to dinner on Tuesday night - it should be good. The week is going to go by in a blur.
Meanwhile, at home, poor Bert is developing an abscess after her latest confrontation with Burger. There were chunks of fur left on the lawn, and she left a splatter of blood droplets all through the house when she bolted inside. Poor girl - not what every senior citizen wants to endure! I'm sure that her grandad will keep a close eye on her.
It's Sunday, we've had our morning coffee, the city is waking up to more sunshine - yeah, I could get used to this...
